Sin Kills: Most Christians Are Dead And Don't Know

4 Jesus answered, “It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4

Sin kills. It kills immediately. Many become Christians and never actually receive life; they are converted into a religion but never stop sinning. They are still dead. Others repent and are born again but sin comes and slays them again. They believe because of their past experiences they are still filled with the Holy Spirit and alive, yet they are still sinning and dead. One sin killed Adam. After Adam sinned he lived his life (930 years) dead. He went into the grave already dead (Matthew 8:22). Many Christians live in repeated sins, knowing they are wrong, and think they are alive in Christ when they are really dead. Likewise, many Christians were alive and were killed by sin and are deceived into believing they are still alive. The only way to have life is through Jesus Christ, obeying His words. If we disobey and live according to the flesh, we die.

Sin Kills Immediately

It is written: The soul that sinneth, it shall die (Ezekiel 18:20). People think this changed for the New Covenant…. They are deceived. Sin still kills and it does not wait until tomorrow:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Genesis 2

9 Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.
Romans 7

13 For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14 because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Romans 8

The enemy lies to us and tempts us to kill us. That's what he is: a murderer. Jesus said that the enemy is the father of lies and was a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44). Everyone who gives into Satan's lies and sins dies. Sin leads to immediate death. When our bodies die and we ourselves (we are not our bodies, our bodies house us) are dead, it is not a good end. Jesus came to give life to the dead:

22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
Matthew 8

25 I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.
John 5

Some Christians may have received life and started off good, but Satan lied to them and led them back into sin and they were killed and do not even know. God's mercy is why we are still breathing, and He is still speaking, calling those who have died to come back to life. This is His grace. Many do not believe when they hear His voice. They have been deceived into believing a lie of compromise and tolerance, a false sense of growth, personal goals to overcome, that it's a life long process, or worse, that "we are all sinners"…. The list goes on. The truth is, when you hear Jesus and believe, you will receive the truth and all you have to do is live in it. Everyday, He speaks and leads. But this requires faith. Most put their faith in people: what people have taught and denominational church rituals. They continue living hungry and thirsty like the woman at the well. No one who comes to Jesus and receives of Him and is alive thirsts again. If you find you thirst, it is because you are dead and in need of water. Many had water, gave it up for sin and died. They still believe they are alive when they are not. Whoever is alive cannot thirst like one who is dead. The one who is dead asks for water. Remember Lazarus and the rich man?

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. 14 Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 4

35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”
John 6

You cannot receive of Jesus and remain thirsty and hungry. If you are thirsty and hungry and believed in Jesus, it is because sin has killed you—now you believe a lie rather than believing the truth with your whole heart. You must seek Jesus, repent, and receive life through the washing of the Word. Many are hungry and thirsty every day because they are not receiving the Word of God, they do not believe in Jesus; they believe in what they have been taught about Him, but do not believe His words. Make sure you are learning and receiving from Jesus. If you are still in sin, struggling, or have fallen back into past sins, it's time to seek Jesus and receive the Word of truth, the Seed that gives you power to stop. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, and he does this through lies, leading one into sin:

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
1 Corinthians 15

People say we are free from the law because of Jesus, and that it does not matter if we sin…. No. We are free from the law when we live in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26). Now we do not have to sin because of Jesus, and if we sin, we die. The enemy has deceived many into believing that it's not an immediate death just because God in His mercy has not yet judged them, and they continue in that sin….

11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong.
Ecclesiastes 8

21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.
Psalms 50

Jesus' Words Are Life

In order to live, we must have Jesus' words in us. To have His words in us, we must believe what He has said with our whole heart—not just the Bible, but what He is saying about your situation. Many don't even know what He is saying now. Then when we believe, we obey, and this is what it means to live in Him. His words are the only source of life. If we disobey, we cannot be alive.

6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8

63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
John 6

Eternal life only comes through the commandment of the Father and knowing God:

50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
John 12

3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
John 17

Eternal life is only given to those who know God (and you cannot know Him if you do not obey)—those who keep His words and commandments (Hebrews 5:8-9). Many believe but do not have faith in His voice and do not obey, and thus, do not have eternal life in them. God's commandments are truth and we must have the truth in us. Just because you believe things about Jesus does not mean you have life in you, nor does it mean you know Him (1 John 1:5-6, 1 John 2:3-6).

We must obey Jesus in order to live. The only way to stop sinning is to have the Word of God (His Seed) in you. Many Christians have memorized Bible verses but continue in sin. This is because they have the Bible in them, but not the Word of God (John 5:39-40). The Word of God is Jesus Himself and the very words He speaks that set us free, the food we live by and must eat daily:

27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.
John 6

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
1 John 3

14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
1 John 2

When we come to the understanding that we must be feeding from Jesus and His words that are Spirit, we understand that we must literally have His words in us to have everlasting life. To have the Word in you is to believe, to be in Him is to do what He says (John 15:5-8). People believe in Jesus—i.e., the things about Jesus—but few believe in the things He says to them. The moment you believe the truth, Jesus speaks through the Holy Spirit, you stop struggling with sin, and receive eternal life. Many struggle with sin because they are trying on their own and then give up, rather than trust Jesus, receive from Him and live in, or obey, what He says.

10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5

Do you believe in the testimony of God, in what He has said and is saying? If you do, you overcome and live in that testimony: this is eternal life.

May God bless and keep you in Jesus' name.
